Winter Wonders: HECA
Now accepting applications… The Hamden Engineering Careers Academy (HECA) at Hamden High School.
Relatively new - the first cohort started in 2019 and will be graduating this year - HECA is loaded with potential for Hamden students and families. It is an innovative dual-enrollment program with partners at Gateway Community College and ManufactureCT. Successful HECA students will have the opportunity to earn a 2-year Associate’s Degree from Gateway CC while at Hamden HS, and will graduate ready for a career in manufacturing or enrollment in a college engineering program. Check out this brief video interview:
The rigorous program includes a two-week “Manufacturing and Engineering in the Real World” summer workshop at Gateway Community College.
HECA also offers and encourages students to enroll in courses from the national pre-engineering program “Project Lead The Way”.
HECA program enrollment is by application only. Application to the program is open to current 8th and 9th grade students. Application takes place each year in February and March, and must be completed by the due date (March 17th) to be considered.
