Friday June 9
A special “Pizza A Love Story” event @ Eli Whitney Museum. Doors/Pizza/Drinks: 6pm. Screening: 7:15pm. Q&A with director Gorman Bechard and producers Dean Falcone & Colin Caplan: 8:45pm. Link for more details.

Saturday June 10
The Town of Hamden and the Hamden PRIDE Committee invite you to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community at the main event, Hamden’s Pride in the Park Festival at Hamden’s Town Center Park. 10am-2pm. Festivities at this free, family friendly celebration will include kid-friendly performances, various food trucks, a DJ, live musicians, over 35 vendors, and fun kids activities. “Hamden Speaker Series” @ BVFCC. 2pm. This month’s topic: 250 years of Spring Glen history followed by a neighborhood walking tour. Details below.
New Haven Symphony Orchestra live on the NH Green. Dive into the magical tones of one of Africa’s most prominent musicians, five-time Grammy Award winner Angelique Kidjo, at the Opening Night of the 2023 International Festival of Arts & Ideas! Led by music director Alasdair Neale, this free New Haven Symphony Orchestra concert on the New Haven Green will entrance listeners by seamlessly mixing genres and powerful musical messages. Free. Sunday June 11
Beer Fest & Concert @ the International Festival Arts & Ideas. 6pm. Raise a pint on the NH Green and enjoy a variety of beer from a ton of local breweries. Your ticket gives you access to sample the flavors of multiple breweries from around New England. Link for tickets.
Insect Life Hike @ Sleeping Giant State Park. Sponsored by SGPA, this hike will introduce participants to some of the many insects that call the Giant “home” and their incredible adaptations and diversity. Raymond Simpson, the President of the CT Entomological Society, will lead the hike. Ray used to work at the Peabody Museum in Entomology. Registration required.

MLK Mural Unveiling from 12-12:45PM outside Miller Memorial Library. Juneteenth Celebration from 1-4PM at Town Center Park will include remarks, musical performances, a “Black Girl Magic” segment, and a “Black Male Excellence” segment in addition to many vendors, crafters, exhibitors, food trucks, and several attractions. Open to Hamden high school juniors and seniors, “The View from Here” is a six-month photography program through the Yale Center for British Art. The program seeks to deepen young people’s engagement with visual art by exposing them to the history, materials, and practice of photography. Students learn the essential principles of taking and composing their own photographs using a smartphone or personal digital device. Working with curators, museum staff, Yale faculty, and photographers, students gain access to unique workshops, experiences, and mentorships. The program culminates in an exhibition of students’ work. Link for more details and to apply.
