Spring Showcase: “Giant Master” Program
With the spring hiking season now upon us, SGPA has announced the return of the beloved “Giant Master” program. Since 1995, this program has been a fun way for individuals and families to enjoy all the the Giant has to offer. The program encourages participants to explore some of the lesser known parts of the park, and to challenge themselves to hike all 32 miles of blazed trails. Link for more details.
Your Next Challenge Awaits! After completing the initial, basic Giant Master program, SGPA members are eligible to participate in the “Advanced Giant Master” programs with 3 additional levels of challenge. See link above for more details on all of the Giant Master programs and challenges.
Friday March 24
Hamden sports success continues… the HHS girls are basketball state champions and now QU men’s ice hockey, ranked #2 in the nation, pursues a national championship. The NCAA Regional Tournament in Bridgeport begins for the Bobcats @ 5:30pm. Link for tickets.

Free tax filing help from Quinnipiac accounting students. Services are available to taxpayers from the Hamden area with annual household incomes of $60,000 or less. The sessions will take place at Keefe Community Center. 12-5pm. Every Friday until April 14th. Those who are interested may walk in; no appointments necessary. Professors from the QU School of Business will review each tax return before it is e-filed. Link for more details.
Saturday March 25
Come learn how to plant pollinators at the “Exploring Nature” workshop, located at East Rock Park's Trowbridge Environmental Center. 10am-12pm. Free healthy snacks and beverages will be provided. Link for registration.
House of Heroes CT is hosting its biggest annual fundraiser, the 2023 Hearts and Heroes Gala "Havana Nights." The event includes live music, dancing, dinner, festive themed cocktails, and a premium raffle with fantastic prizes. A special "Strength in Service" Award will be presented this year to retired Hamden Fire Fighter Paul Turner. 6-11pm. Link for more details and tickets.
Taikoza will introduce audience members to music, dance, and costumes inspired by traditional Japanese festivals. Kids & families will experience the enchanting sounds of bamboo flutes, the plucky notes of the Koto harp, the room-filling boom of the big-barrel taiko drums, and more! Hamden Public Library continues its series “Satruday Afternoon at the Movies”. This weekend’s film is Oscar Best Picture nominee “Elvis”. 2-4:45pm. Free. Link for registration.

New Haven Symphony Orchestra. NHSO Music Director Candidate Perry So leads a program featuring Beethoven's Symphony No. 3, and more. 3pm @ the Lyman Center for the Performing Arts @ SCSU. Kids under 18 are free with the purchase of an adult ticket. Link for tickets.
Walk-in STEM projects @ Hamden’s Eli Whitney Museum. Free. 10am-3pm. For children ages 5-12. A museum apprentice will work with your child as they build a project and begin to experiment. Sessions last from 20 minutes to an hour. Projects change from weekend to weekend. Link for more details.

Tuesday March 28
Nature Photography Class & Scavenger Hunt with the ERP Junior Explorers Club. 3-5pm. Free. A nature photographer will lead a kids' class in photography. Participants will be given some tips and then sent out on a nature photography scavenger hunt. Snacks provided. Link for more details.
The acclaimed Dallas Symphony Orchestra @ Yale’s Woolsey Hall. Free. 7:30-8:30pm. This special appearance is part of the ensemble’s first tour in a decade. Link for more details.

Meet the orchestra! New Haven Symphony Orchestra kids event @ the Lyman Center for the Performing Arts @ SCSU. 1pm. This free, interactive program designed for kids will show off all the cool sounds that an orchestra can make. This concert is free but tickets are required. Link for free tickets.
