Spring Showcase: QU to the Frozen Four!!!!
The QU men’s ice hockey team will compete for the NCAA national championship next week! Ranked in the Top 5 most of the season, and entering the NCAA tournament ranked #2 in the nation, they won the Bridgeport regional last Sunday. Now they travel to the “Frozen Four” with a semifinal matchup against the University of Michigan on Thursday April 6th at 8:30pm. A win there will put them in the national championship game Saturday night, April 8th, versus either Boston University or the University of Minnesota. Both Frozen Four games will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2.
QU has organized regional locations for fans to congregate and cheer on the Bobcats for both games. Here in Hamden, the QU-designated location is Eli’s on Whitney. 8pm. Link for more details.

Final Weekend: Yale Repertory Theatre presents MOJADA. 8pm. MOJADA unleashes the power of Euripides’ ancient tale through an unforgettable story of an undocumented family caught in the grip of the American immigration system. Link for more details and tickets.

Free tax filing help from Quinnipiac accounting students. Services are available to taxpayers from the Hamden area with annual household incomes of $60,000 or less. The sessions will take place at Keefe Community Center. 12-5pm. Every Friday until April 14th. Those who are interested may walk in; no appointments necessary. Professors from the QU School of Business will review each tax return before it is e-filed. Link for more details.
Saturday April 1
Meet the orchestra! New Haven Symphony Orchestra kids event @ the Lyman Center for the Performing Arts @ SCSU. 1pm. This free, interactive program designed for kids will show off all the cool sounds that an orchestra can make. This concert is free but tickets are required. Link for free tickets.
Kid Birding Lesson & Walk and Open House. Free. 10am-12pm. Join “Friends of East Rock Park” to do basic birding with the New Haven Bird Club at this Exploring Nature event! Located at East Rock Park's Trowbridge Environmental Center. Free healthy snacks and beverages will be provided. Link for more details.
STEM @ Yale. Wind Turbine Challenge. Open to Hamden students in grades 6-8. Free. 2-5pm. Link for more details and registration.
Sunday April 2
Yale Brain Bee. For teens who want to showcase their knowledge of neuroscience. And want to put their wits to the test against other brainiacs. Register for the 2023 Brain Bee to compete in Yale’s high school neuroscience competition. Link to register.
“Pathways to Public Health Careers” presented by Yale Pathways to Science. 9am-1:30pm. Free. Open to Hamden students in grades 8-12. A day of exploring different areas of public health, from epidemiology to biostatistics and much more! You’ll also learn what it takes to run a hospital and what public health officials do to keep the public healthy. Link for more details and registration.

Friday April 7
Join NH Docs and BVFCC for a new monthly screening collaboration. Our inaugural feature will be “The Oystering Life” directed by Steve Hamm. There will be a Q&A following the screen with director Steve Hamm and Chef Nadine Nelson, Green Queen of Cuisine, the eco chef and social entrepreneur of Global Local Gourmet, a roving community-supported kitchen. The event begins at 7pm, with a cover charge of $10.
American Red Cross blood drive @ Whitneyville Cultural Commons. Every Friday 12:15-6pm. Walk-ins are welcome.
Saturday April 8
Science on Saturdays @ Yale. 10am-12pm. Free. Hamden families are invited to explore science with hands-on demonstrations by Yale students and a lecture by Yale professor Dr. Albert Ko. An infectious disease specialist and epidemiologist from the Yale School of Public Health, Dr. Ko will talk about "How We Use Science to Protect People from Epidemics." Link for more details.
