Fall Feature: Indoor Live Music (part 1)
As the temperature drops in the weeks and months ahead, Hamdenites have numerous local, indoor opportunities for symphonies and classical music. Countless concerts right at our doorstep, including world-class venues and musicians. An abundance of arts & cultural events for Hamden families and residents. New Haven Symphony Orchestra performing at Hamden HS and the SCSU Lyman Center for the Performing Arts.
Hamden Symphony Orchestra performing at Hamden Memorial Town Hall and other local venues.
Yale Symphony Orchestra performing at Yale’s Woolsey Hall, frequently including special guest musicians from around the world.
Yale Morse Recital Hall includes a wide variety of performances from Yale musicians and renowned special guests from around the world.
SCSU concerts at Lyman Center for the Performing Arts.

Road Trip: The UNDEFEATED and CT Top 10 ranked Hamden High football team travels to Branford. Game time 7pm.
Final Weekend: Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf? @ Yale Repertory Theatre. 7:30pm. Performances every Tues-Sat until Oct 29th. Link for more details and tickets.
Halloween Costume Party @ Playwright. 9pm. Free. Live music and prizes for best costumes.
Free HSA soccer skills clinics. Location has been changed to the Everson indoor soccer facility. 5:30-7pm. Note: these clinics are only for current Hamden Soccer Association players (all age groups).

Not-So-Spooky Family Halloween Party for young kids @ Best Video Film & Cultural Center. 10am-12 noon. All children welcome, but programing will target 7 and under. There will be some classic Halloween cartoons, story time, activities and costume prizes. Link for more details.
Halloween movie screening & costume party @ Best Video Film & Cultural Center. 9pm. Free. Link for more details.
Open Source 2022 Arts Festival @ Eli Whitney Museum Barn. In addition to the art, the event includes food trucks and annual tool sale. 12-5pm. Link for more details.
Opera Scenes @ Yale Morse Recital Hall. An evening of excerpts from the operatic repertoire performed with piano featuring a cast capable of “crystalline” (Hartford Courant) performances. Link for more details and tickets.
Free Family Fun Day @ Shubert Theatre. 10am-1pm. Event includes walking backstage tour of the theatre with trick or treat stations along the way, as well as an arts and crafts area. Children under 12 are welcome to wear Halloween costumes for trick or treating in the Shubert lobby. Link for more details.
Splash @ Yale is an event that brings area high school and middle school students to Yale for one day of unlimited learning. 10am-3:30pm. Open to HPS students in grades 7-12. Students take classes in a variety of both conventional and unconventional subjects taught by Yale undergraduate and graduate students. Link for more details and registration.

Sunday Oct 30
Halloween party & kids concert with Grateful Dead music @ Space Ballroom. 12pm. The Rock and Roll Playhouse band offers its core audience of families with children age 10 and under games, movement, stories and an opportunity to rock out in an effort to educate children and explore their creativity. Volunteer Opportunity: SGPA Trail crew assemble every Sunday by the tool shed near Main entrance at 9:15am. There are blazes to paint, trees to clear, and other work for all skills and abilities. Bring your gloves and wear sturdy shoes – tools will be provided by SGPA. All are welcome to join. Link for more details.

Children grades K-8: Halloween Night Party @ We Are the Village (Hamden Public Schools Board of Education offices on Putnam Ave). 4-6pm. Dance party, costume contest, food and snacks, arts & crafts activities, etc. Details below.

Deadline: Yale Resonance STEM program. Open to HPS students in grades 6-12. Resonance invites you to a full day of science. (The event is on Sunday November 6th, but the registration deadline is Oct 31st.) We’ll kick off with a team engineering contest to design bottle rockets and egg drops, followed by classes about the chemistry of food, the germination of seeds, and more! Jan Jiracek von Arnim, Horowitz Piano Series @ Yale Morse Recital Hall. 7:30pm. A performance of music by Liszt and Beethoven, including the latter’s “Moonlight” Sonata, by the artist BBC Music Magazine has called “one of the leading pianists of his generation.” Link for more details and tickets.

“Science Cafe” presented by Open Labs @ Yale. Open to Hamden Middle School students and families. Explore hands-on science demonstrations and learn about groundbreaking research while enjoying snacks and hot cocoa.
