Fall Feature: Defending National Champions
Hamden, home of the defending national champion QU Bobcats Men’s Ice Hockey team. Season opener this weekend vs #6 Boston College @ M&T Bank Arena in Hamden. QU opens the season ranked #1 in the nation, again.
The season opener will be broadcast on NESN TV.

East Rock Brewing Company’s 4th annual Oktoberfest celebration in the beer hall and game garden. 12-9pm, split into 2 separate sessions. Contests: Stein holding competition(s), yodeling competitions, pretzel throwing, and more. Games: Dunk tank, floor shuffleboard, corn hole, pretzel toss, and more. German-inspired food, made locally. Saturday Family Entertainment Series presented by the Hamden Arts Commission. 1-2pm @ Thornton Wilder Hall in Miller Memorial Library. Details below.
Pop Culture Celebration and Market. BVFCC presents the very first “BEST from 1 - 8 pm. Vendors of VHS, vinyl, vintage video games and consoles, vintage clothing, action figures, food, and general festivities will take place from 1 - 6 pm both inside and outside. The day will close out with a live music performance at 7 pm. Link for more details.
Intro to Coffee Roasting & Tasting @ Make Haven. In this 2.5-hr class you will learn how to roast your own coffee beans on a Behmor Coffee Roaster as well as normal machine cleaning and maintenance. Try 5 different types of freshly roasted coffee and take home 1/2 pound of ready-to-grind beans. Link for more details.

“The Big Sit” organized by the New Haven Bird Club. A semi-competitive bird watching event. (You read that correctly, not a typo.) Link for more details.
Join the Sleeping Giant Park Association for a guided hike exploring the history of Sleeping Giant State Park. This hike will be led by Julie Hulten and Trina Learned, who have each done extensive research into the history of the park and the Association. Both will talk about the construction of the tower and the quarrying that gave rise to the movement to save the Giant a century ago. 1-3pm. Link for more details.
