Fall Feature: Teen Center @ Hamden Public Library
A really cool programming idea from the Hamden Public Library… the HPL “Teen Center” is a place for studying, reading, collaborative work, and hanging out. It offers comfortable seating, computers, charging stations, card and tabletop games, coloring, events and programs, video games, and of course, books, manga, and graphic novels. Located on the second floor of the Miller Memorial Library, the Teen Center is open to Hamden youth in grades 7–12, Monday through Friday from 2:45–5:00 pm. American Red Cross blood drive @ Whitneyville Cultural Commons. Every Friday 12:15-6pm. Walk-ins are welcome.
French conversation group every Friday 4-5pm at the Hamden Public Library. Gather in a casual setting and speak French! All skill levels are encouraged from fluent to beginner.
The Yale Philharmonia, led by Principal Conductor Peter Oundjian and joined by mezzo-soprano Kara Morgan ‘24MMA, the Elm City Girls’ Choir, and the treble voices from the Yale Glee Club, opens its 2023–2024 concert season with a performance of Mahler’s colossal Third Symphony. Join your Hamden Land Conservation Trust as we plant a native pollinator plant rain garden at Town Center Park. Our friends at Save the Sound are installing a stormwater pollution mitigation system at the park. Hamden Land Conservation Trust will be planting a rain garden as part of that green infrastructure installation 10am-2pm. Link for more details.

Join the Sleeping Giant Park Association for a guided hike exploring the history of Sleeping Giant State Park. This hike will be led by Julie Hulten and Trina Learned, who have each done extensive research into the history of the park and the Association. Both will talk about the construction of the tower and the quarrying that gave rise to the movement to save the Giant a century ago. 1-3pm. Link for more details.

The Leitner Family Observatory and Planetarium is a facility of the Yale Department of Astronomy. The planetarium is used to teach astronomy concepts to undergraduate classes, to support astronomy programs at the Peabody Museum of Natural History, and to present planetarium shows to the general public. The planetarium and observatory are open to the public every Tuesday night. Link for more details.

Yale’s HPREP is a nationwide high school Saturday science enrichment program aimed at recruiting students from diverse backgrounds and those who are socially and economically disadvantaged, into careers in the sciences and health professions. Under the mentorship of minority graduate and professional students, high school HPREP participants are introduced to various topics within medicine and public health. Each session will feature presentations about different fields of medicine, delivered by Yale Faculty, and small-group workshops and activities. Five scholarship prizes will be awarded to the five top-engaged students with the best final presentations. Link for more details.
